Frankston Baxter Rail Tender

ScopeThe project will duplicate and electrify 8km of the Stony Point Rail Line from Frankston to Baxter.BenefitsThe Stony Point Rail Line is a 31km single-track non-electrified rail line that connects Frankston to Stony Point on the Mornington Peninsula. At present metropolitan electric trains operate between Melbourne and Frankston on an electrified double track. However diesel trains operate less frequently between Frankston and Stony Point. The majority of the Mornington Peninsulas population is located south of Frankston. This requires lengthy bus connections to Frankston for people needing to access Melbourne.The project will enable high capacity metropolitan electric trains to operate from Frankston to Baxter. This will increase capacity reduce travel times and improve service reliability.
