π Tender Overview
The new passenger terminal 3 is being built to the south of Frankfurt Airport. Deutsche Bahn is planning a connection including a new station under the new terminal. The goal: Travelers can easily reach the new Terminal 3 directly from Frankfurt Central Station from the north. Otherwise, passengers would have to change trains at the airport regional train station (Terminal 1). This saves travel time and also relieves the regional train station. Coming from the south, the airport can also be reached directly in the future. The previously necessary change at the Frankfurt am Main Stadion stop can thus be omitted. The planning of the connecting route is financed by the State of Hesse.
The new terminal offers capacity for 19 million passengers per year. Below the terminal area, Deutsche Bahn is realizing the new station for regional traffic. This will be connected to the existing rail network with a double-track line. For this purpose, a link between the Zeppelinheim and Walldorf stations is planned on the MannheimβFrankfurt (Riedbahn) route. At the airport, the route runs underground in a tunnel. The exact route and location is still open and will be determined in the course of the next planning and implementation steps.
