The project in brief
Background Burkina Faso is experiencing a major humanitarian crisis, marked by increased food and nutrition insecurity and a deterioration in the livelihoods of vulnerable populations. By 2025, more than 2,264,000 people (10% of the population) will be food and nutrition insecure and will therefore need food assistance. With the severity and prolongation of the crisis, the need for food assistance and livelihood protection is increasing sharply. The Government is requesting support from partners to address the crisis within the framework of the national coordination mechanism for food and nutrition security interventions. Switzerland, through its humanitarian action, will provide food assistance (save lives) and protect the livelihoods of populations, particularly those forcibly displaced. This support (single phase) will be provided through a contribution to the Food Security Support Fund (FASA), which is the financial instrument of the national coordination mechanism for food security interventions.
Objectives Contribute to the reduction of food and nutritional insecurity and the resilience of vulnerable populations, particularly internally displaced persons.
Target groups Food insecure populations in immediate need of assistance. Around 130,000 people (displaced persons and host communities), 80% of whom are women and children. Livestock and agropastoral households in fodder deficit areas.
Medium-term outcomes Outcome 1: Food insecure populations, particularly displaced people, have access to emergency food assistance that meets their vital needs (saving lives). Outcome 2: Pastoralist and agro-pastoralist households affected by security and climate crises protect their livelihoods and strengthen their resilience Outcome 3: The National Food Security Council better anticipates food and agro-pastoral crises and effectively coordinates assistance to vulnerable people
Results Expected results: β’ At least 100,000 people, particularly IDPs and their hosts in food emergencies in regions with high security challenges, improve their food security, β’ At least 5,000 livestock and agro-pastoral households (30,000 people) in fodder deficit areas secure at least 50,000 heads of livestock thanks to livestock feed, β’ The food and nutritional security situation and the annual fodder balance sheet are established on time for crisis manag
