π Tender Overview
Food supply chain is under increased strain as a result of quick and dynamic changes in the environment, technologies, consumer
behaviour, policymaking, and climate, particularly in terms of effectively managing food security, food surplus, food loss, and food waste.
Food loss and waste occur along the supply chain as follow: 23% in the production phase, 16% in the processing phase (handling and
storage included), 9% in the distribution phase, 52% in the distribution phase. Therefore, as called for by the Farm to Fork Strategy, the
Commission will propose legally binding targets to reduce food waste across the EU, by end 2023, in order to meet the SDG 12.3 target to
halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chains.
One of the main problems of the food industry is the lack of a rapid flow of information exchange between the different phases of the
supply chain which are very often categorically divided even if they are strictly interconnected. Therefore, the project will focus, in the initial
stage, in the creation of Food Supply-Chain Ecosystems for Sustainability in order to connect educators and organizations operating in the
sector to better connect the theory with practice in order to increase the sustainability of the food industry and support the circular
economy
A Food Chase Competence Framework will be created with the aim to become a benchmark in the food industry at EU level. The Framework
will therefore be a point of reference for the creation of innovative curricula and practical experiences aimed at reskilling and upskilling
workers in the food industry.
A new curriculum in line with the real needs of the food supply chain will be developed and new professional figure will be identified, the
From Farm-To-Fork Specialist, to generate a relevant impact and concretely reduce the environmental footprint of the food supply-chain
