π Tender Overview
Scope :
Expansion of the Banjul port. Albayrak would invest β¬605 million (US$662 million) in Banjul port in three phases over the concession period, creating jobs for 5,000 people.
The concession is structured so the GPA will be a landlord and shareholder in the special-purpose vehicle (SPV) established, ensuring The Gambia benefits from fixed fees, royalties and dividends, while also participating in major decisions on the management and operation of the port facilities.
Banjul port expansion, with the African Development Bank (AfDB) granting US$20 million to cover project components such as the widening and expansion of the Bund access road; the design, building and supply of a new green ferry for the Banjul-Barra ferry crossing; and consultancy services for the development of a climate-resilient transport masterplan.
The project also includes constructing a new container terminal and rehabilitating the existing one; expanding and strengthening the jetty at Banjul wharf to provide adequate berthing capacity for ships; relocating the Banjul ferry terminal; relocating the GPAβs headquarters complex away from the main operational zone; and rolling out digitised business process systems in partnership with the Gambia Revenue Authority as well as the digitalisation of port operations.
The estimated cost of the expansion is US$129 million. The project is being supported with funding from the AfDB, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
