PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Initial situation
Since 1985, Togo has been committed to equality, gender justice, and a stronger role for women.
The country has introduced numerous reforms to improve the protection of women's rights and curb discrimination, particularly in family law, protection against violence and harassment, and equal access to economic and agricultural means of production.
Despite the progress, implementation of the reforms remains challenging, especially in the communities. Women still have limited access to economic and political participation. This is also detrimental to the country's social cohesion.
Objective
The institutional conditions in Togo have been improved in order to reduce inequalities and discrimination against women.
The project supports the following measures:
• It integrates equality and gender justice into national political strategies. It also raises awareness among civil society, public institutions, and private companies. By creating spaces for dialogue on gender issues and using inclusive approaches to dispute resolution by traditional and religious authorities, the project is contributing to a change in social norms.
• It organizes information campaigns and training courses to help girls and young women better defend their interests.
• The project improves the quality of legal services by involving traditional and religious authorities and courthouses. Adapted and inclusive justice mechanisms enable better protection of women's rights and equal access to the legal system for women.
