PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
After years of conflict, the situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) remains unstable. Many people struggle with economic hardship due to widespread destruction and a lack of employment opportunities. Internally displaced persons (IDPs), people who have returned to their home communities, refugees from neighboring countries, and the communities hosting IDPs face particular challenges. Within these groups, women and people with disabilities encounter additional barriers to employment. Since almost 60 percent of the population in Iraq and the KRI is under 25 years old, young people urgently need access to employment to build a secure livelihood.
Objective:
Refugees, IDPs, and members of host communitiesโespecially women and people with disabilitiesโhave further developed their skills to improve their employment prospects or to start and develop their own businesses.
Approach:
The inclusion of women and people with disabilities is a top priority in all aspects of the project. The measures focus primarily on the following four areas:
โข Political advocacy: The project raises awareness by sharing fact-based findings with government agencies.
โข Employment-related skills: The project designs and implements vocational training programs, arranges internships, develops curricula, and trains staff at national training institutions.
โข Business preparation: The project provides financial support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and organizes training for them.
โข Short-term employment opportunities: The project facilitates short-term employment, for example, through cash-for-work initiatives, to provide immediate financial relief.
