PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Creating productive and decent jobs is one of Egypt's greatest economic and social challenges. According to the ILO, almost 8 percent of Egypt's working-age population was registered as unemployed in 2020. Youth unemployment was over 17 percent, with young women being particularly affected at over 43 percent. An estimated 63 percent of the working-age population is employed informally or in precarious employment (ERF, 2018). The situation on the Egyptian labor market is linked to Egypt's demographic development. According to the ERF, the working-age population is expected to grow by 800,000 people per year between 2030 and 2035. Sufficient productive jobs must be provided for new entrants to the labor market to prevent further increases in unemployment, underemployment, and precarious employment among young people. Adapting to the impacts of climate change requires skilled workers for both the economy and labor markets.
The goal
of Egypt's technical education is to prepare trainees for work in an economy that is transitioning to a green economy.
Together with the Egyptian Ministry of Education, the project will:
β’ adapt the reform strategy for technical training to the requirements of work in a green economy,
β’ work on improving the dual system to align training with labor market requirements and suppor
