π Tender Overview
Scope : To Build an Elevated Corridor over the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Mumbai, Maharashtra
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to build an elevated corridor over the Western Express Highway (WEH) with an estimated cost of Rs 5,500 crore. The tender for this project will be floated after the detailed project report (DPR) is approved by the government. The DPR will be prepared in the next five to six months, and the project is expected to complete within four years from the commencement date.
The highwayβs length is about 25 km, and the elevated section will consist of three to four single-pier cable-stayed bridges, which will connect to underpasses at junctions. The concept design will involve a 15.3-km-long elevated corridor between Mahim and Malad which will be divided into three to four sections on the bridges.
The elevated corridor will increase the number of lanes on both carriageways to 14 or 16, including lanes underneath and the building of tunnels. The tunnels will come up at junctions, including Kala Nagar, JVLR and Aarey. The upgraded corridor will involve pedestrian facilities such as wider sidewalks and landscaped median spaces.
Currently, the highway has five lanes in each direction and service roads complement about 50 percent of the total length. There are six lanes, out of which six are on both carriageways of the bridges and four on slip roads adjoining the flyovers. In addition, the barriers to segregating traffic between long flyovers will also be included in the project.
