📋 Tender Overview
Scope : To Build a Electric Vehicles Battery Plant in Kyushu, Japan
Toyota Motor will build a battery plant for electric vehicles in Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's four main islands, Nikkei has learned.
The auto giant will acquire land at an industrial park being built by the Fukuoka prefectural government in northern Kyushu. Toyota's battery manufacturing subsidiary, Primearth EV Energy, will operate the new factory.
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is expected to subsidize the plant under the auspices of the Economic Security Promotion Act.
Kyushu is known as Japan's "Silicon Island," and suppliers of semiconductors and image sensors needed for EVs and automated driving are also clustered in the region.
The industrial park is located 40 kilometers from Toyota's Miyata plant, which assembles Lexus vehicles. The plant has an annual capacity of 430,000 vehicles, 90% of which are exported mainly to other Asian destinations.
The new plant is expected to be the main battery supplier to the Miyata plant. Decisions of details like the construction schedule and investment amount are yet to be made.
