Objectives
The project aims to support teachers, create a collaborative dynamic among pupils, and inform policy makers, in a context of massive refugee influx, to promote the learning of the language of schooling in all school subjects. Project objectives thus include improving the academic achievement and well-being of migrant pupils, promoting intercultural understanding and awareness among all pupils, and improving the professional skills and competencies of teachers working with diverse populations.
Activities
The project will implement a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach that will 1) collect and analyse actual practices, 2) develop the professional skills and awareness of mainstream teachers to better understand and address language barriers, and to make the most of the group dynamics between migrant and non-migrant pupils, 3) advocate for policy changes to help schools provide adequate support to migrant pupils, based on a comparison of the different school systems in the partner regions.
