π Tender Overview
Status: in planning
The track hall of the Duisburg main station is being modernized and rebuilt.
The track hall, including the roof, is being rebuilt at Duisburg Central Station. A structure made of corrugated steel girders will replace the previous roof β a steel structure covered with wood. In the future, sufficient daylight will enter the hall through large openings. At 124 x 150 meters, it will have the same basic dimensions as the previous track hall and will continue to span all 13 tracks of the station. The load-bearing elements of the new hall are made of steel, the others are made of glass. This means that artificial lighting is no longer necessary during the day. In the future, slim supports will bear the load of the roof. These are no longer founded in the track area, but on the platform.
The construction project also provides for a complete overhaul of the platforms and equipment. In addition to benches and waiting areas, this also includes a modern wayfinding and guidance system for the blind, as well as facilities for customer information.
A new sound and lighting concept and the renewal of the escalators complete the construction work.
The main construction work will follow from August 2022. From Friday, August 5, 2022 until summer 2023, work will be carried out on the platform on track 12/13. At the same time, the new wave-shaped roof is being built in the area of ??the platform. The work will then continue on the adjacent platform on track 10/11. The work on the roof will also continue.
The construction time for each platform and roof section is around one year. The trains stop at the other platforms. The construction of the new track hall is expected to be completed in 2028.
