PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Context
Digital commerce (e-commerce) offers considerable economic potential for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the southern Mediterranean region.
However, the sector faces many challenges due to a lack of or incomplete national framework conditions. This leads to trade barriers, legal uncertainty for online companies, and inadequate consumer protection. Furthermore, there is a lack of political cooperation between countries to harmonize regulatory requirements and technical standards so that companies can trade digitally across borders.
Objective
The institutional and business framework conditions for inclusive digital trade in the southern Mediterranean region are improved.
Approach
The project operates regionally to facilitate dialogue, exchange of experience, and cooperation between the countries in the region. To this end, it organizes training courses, study tours, and an innovation laboratory, among other things. The cooperation aims to harmonize digital trade within the southern Mediterranean region and promote regulations that are aligned with the European Union (EU), thus improving trade with Europe.
The project trains government institutions, private sector associations, and companies to gain professional expertise in regulatory frameworks. This will enable them to support digital commerce and establish coordinated systems, such as those for online payments.
