Description
In the framework of the Programme AVENIR (Empowerment through Nutrition-sensitive, Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural and Rural En trepreneurship), UNIDO has been requested to provide technical assistance for #Community-based cluster development for green standards-based charcoal value chain. The project will be implemented in the heart of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), targeting Central Kongo, Kwango, Kwilu, Mai Ndombe, and the urban periphery of Kinshasa. The expected outcome of the project is to develop a green standards-based, sustainable and traceable charcoal value chain, focusing on endogenous bamboo and other fast-growing species, by involving local communities and clusters. The project will contribute to enhancing awareness within the target clusters about the adverse impact of traditional charcoal production on deforestation, it will promote cluster-based collective efficiencies and capacity-building for ensuring green charcoal value chain sustainable management and develop a robust framework of standards and regulations, alongside a conformity assessment system, to ensure traceability and certification for sustainable rainforest ecosystem management.
