Scope: Develop airport at Billehfahi Island in Shaviyani (Sh) Atoll
By investing in aviation facilities, the Maldives aims to facilitate smoother travel, stimulate tourism and bolster economic development. This strategic initiative aims to improve access to air connectivity for citizens, businesses and tourists by expanding and modernizing airport infrastructure. The government's policy is to develop a domestic airport within 30 minutes of every residential island, resort or industrial island.
The government is keen on expediting airport development in different locations to be completed within the next 2-3 years.
Under the MVR 256 million agreement, a 1,500-metre runway, passenger terminal, office building and fire building will be constructed at Billehfahi.
