π Tender Overview
One of the objectives of CEF 2021 β 2027 programme is to adapt parts of the Trans-European network to the dual use of transport infrastructure in order to improve civilian and military mobility. The project is located in the North-Eastern part of Romania, at the border with the Republic of Moldova, on the administrative territory of Iasi county. The general objective of this project is the modernization of the transport infrastructure, by the construction of the Ungheni bridge over the Prut river, as well as the necessary access infrastructure. This will ensure a smooth cross-border road connection between Romania and the Republic of Moldova and proper technical conditions, in accordance with the regulations in force. The Ungheni Bridge represents the eastern end of the Targu-Mures β Iasi β Ungheni motorway, currently under construction, part of the core TEN-T Network and in alignment with the military strategical documents. In the long run, the implementation of the project will lead to improved traffic conditions, reduced vehicle operating costs, as well as a significant reduction in travel time (by approx. 30%, according to the 2022 traffic study). In terms of environmental impact, the project will lead to reduced road congestion and considerable reduction in GHG emissions. The specific objective is to build a 2x2 lanes bridge, as well as the necessary access infrastructure. The total length of the bridge, cross-border point and adjacent parking spaces is 1,000 m, out of which the length of the bridge is 261,20 m. The project also includes the construction of a 2x2 lanes 0.5 km long motorway section which will ensure the independent functionality of the bridge until the Targu Mures β Targu Neamt β Iasi β Ungheni motorway is fully completed.
