SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Overall goal
Cultures in Motion is the arts and culture center at the VIDC. Its central aim is to convey a nuanced perspective on development policy and global issues to a broad public. The program seeks to reflect on and strengthen the participation of artists from the Global South and initiatives by artists and cultural workers from diaspora communities within the Austrian arts and culture sector. Current socio-political and cultural debates on postcolonialism, diversity, participation, and inclusion are to be explored, and artistic formats and discourses are to contribute to social justice and combat discrimination (with a focus on North-South cooperation, marginalized groups, and gender). A diversity of perspectives, respectful dialogue, and peaceful coexistence between people of different origins, social classes, and cultural backgrounds are to be promoted.
Expected results
- Strategies for change against discrimination in international arts and cultural work in Austria were developed and implemented through participatory processes.
- Knowledge transfer promoted skills and empowerment to ensure equal opportunities for all participants.
- Global cultural exchange and strategic partnerships with local, national and international cultural initiatives and cultural professionals were strengthened, and global solidarity was promoted.
- Gender equality for women*, girls*, FLINT and queer people was promoted, and their representation and working realities in the arts and culture sector were improved.
- Contributions were made to the implementation of the UNESCO Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (including preferential treatment and the mobility clause, Article 16). The focus was on addressing the disadvantages faced by artists and cultural workers from the Global South.
