π Tender Overview
The Cornberger Tunnel is located on the Frankfurt (Main) β GΓΆttingen route in a double-track electrified section between Bebra and Sontra. It was put into operation in 1875 and has suffered numerous damages after the past 145 years of train service. Due to the damage, the tunnel can no longer be renovated economically and must therefore be replaced by a new building in a parallel position. This maintains the performance of the track over the long term. In addition, driving comfort is increased.
The new double-track tunnel will be built in parallel to the south of the existing tunnel. As a result, the tracks in the area of ??the tunnel and at Cornberg station will also be swung slightly to the south. Due to the new track layout, the forest path also has to be moved sideways over a length of around 60 metres. The portal structures are bordered with newly formed embankments. In addition, access roads and new technical buildings are being built for both portals. A rescue area including a fire-fighting water tank will be set up at the east portal. The new tunnel will be 681 meters long.
The 719 meter long Cornberger Tunnel between Bebra and Sontra has almost reached the end of its technical useful life. Therefore it will be replaced by a new building.
