๐ Tender Overview
Maximum grant amount : 5,944 million yen
Scope :
Djibouti City is divided by the Ambouli River, which flows from north to south, into the residential area on the west bank, where around 70% of the countryโs people live (Balbala Quarter, with a population of approximately 400,000) and the east bank center (Djibouti Centre Ville, with a population of approximately 170,000) where public facilities such as schools and hospitals are located. There are only two main roads linking the east and west of Djibouti Cityโthe Palmeraie Road and the Italian Bridge. The Italian Bridge is closed to heavy vehicles such as large trucks due to damage, making the Palmeraie Road their only option.
As the Ambouli River is a dry river for much of the year, the crossing section on the Palmeraie Road has no bridge, and water flows over the road when the river rises. In recent years, the river has been rising about one to three times annually, due to the effects of climate change such as cyclones and heavy rainfall, flooding the road for one to five days each time. During such periods, crossing the river becomes impossible, significantly affecting Djiboutiโs economyโwhich is heavily dependent on the logistics industryโand the daily lives of its people. To resolve these issues, this project will construct a new bridge on the Palmeraie Road and improve the road itself, with the aim of expanding its traffic capacity and ensuring a stable means of transportation in the event of flooding.
