Scope of WorkConstruction of 136km Bharatpur Nijgadh section of the 946km Mahakali Mechi trans-Nepal railway. DescriptionThe consortium comprises Yooshin Engineering Corporation Korea Balaji Railroad Systems Private Ltd Barsyl India China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group CREEC China and Full Bright Consultancy Nepal.The Bharatpur Hetauda Nijgadh line will form the central section of a new standard-gauge mixed-traffic railway spanning Nepal from the Mahakali zone on the western border with India to Mechi on the eastern border with India. The line will be electrified although the voltage has not yet been decided.The implementation of the project is to facilitate public transport boost economic activity by connecting places within Nepal and to facilitate a trade corridor with India and possibly with China in the long run. The entire project is expected to cost around US 3bn and will probably be implemented as public-private partnership scheme. Construction could start two years from now and it is likely to take between five and six years to build the new line.
