Project Summary
Korea will host APEC’s 18th Conference on Good Regulatory Practices (GRP18) at SOM III in Incheon, Korea in August 2025. New technologies have the capacity to make life easier and more convenient. For example, artificial intelligence can simplify tasks and can secure transactions. Digital technology can accelerate regulatory development by speeding processing and providing ways for remote stakeholders to be engaged.

However, when these technologies are unregulated or regulated differently between economies, trade may be disrupted and economic growth may be uneven. It is important to examine how economies are approaching the regulation of new technologies and how such technologies can be applied to regulatory development.

This project will organize a conference centered around the effect of technology on regulatory development and the regulation of new technologies. It will survey the work on digital technologies, such as AI, Big data etc., in other APEC bodies to identify the key issues of importance to economies. This will serve as the starting point for agenda development.
