π Tender Overview
Computational Imaging Through Scattering Materials Using Speckle Correlation
New Computer Imaging Methods Enable Study Of Speckle Patterns In Light-Scattering Materialsunder Coherent Light, Light-Scattering Materials Create Noise-Like Images Commonly Referred To As Speckle. Despite Their Seemingly Random Nature, Speckle Patterns Have Strong Statistical Correlation Properties That Can Be Leveraged To Improve Imaging Techniques. However, The Lack Of Suitable Modelling Tools Impedes Complete Understanding Of Speckle Properties. The Eu-Funded Specklecorr Project Will Combine Computer Vision And Computer Graphics Techniques To Greatly Enhance Understanding Of Speckle Statistics And Significantly Expand The Scope Of Their Applications. The Proposed Methods Will Be Able To Measure Speckle Correlation Directly Compared To Traditional Methods That First Capture First Speckle Images And Then Estimate Correlations In A Post-Processing Stage.
