PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Context
Bangladesh is one of the countries in the world most threatened by the consequences of climate change. Natural disasters such as floods, sea level rise and hurricanes wreak havoc on cities and rural areas. It is therefore important to integrate climate protection and climate adaptation aspects into national and municipal development plans and to implement them effectively in order to enable sustainable development in the country. The Bangladesh government sees major challenges in the effects of climate change and unplanned urban development.
Cities act as catalysts, from which enormous growth and innovation impulses emanate, which have an effect deep into the surrounding rural areas. However, the problem of climate change-related internal migration still has to be integrated into urban and regional planning and the corresponding framework papers and strategies. This applies in particular to land use planning. Decisions about investing in urban infrastructure and services need to be future-oriented and protected from the recurring and worsening negative impacts of climate change.
At the political level, it is important to take into account the climate risks and the needs of vulnerable groups in urban development planning and the implementation of the resulting projects. Responsible city governments and national authorities must implement their investment
