The project in brief
Background Since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan in 2023, eastern Chad has hosted over 930,000 Sudanese refugees, including nearly 264,000 in the Wadi Fira province. Women and children comprise approximately 87% of this refugee population, exacerbating the need for protection, essential services, and livelihoods. This influx is placing significant strain on already limited resources and infrastructure, in a context marked by food insecurity, the effects of climate change, tensions over resources, and dwindling humanitarian funding. Faced with these multidimensional vulnerabilities, the project implements an integrated approach combining protection, livelihood strengthening, social cohesion and strengthening of community mechanisms in order to improve the resilience of refugees and host communities and to promote sustainable solutions.
Objectives Host populations and refugees in Wadi Fira live in a more protective environment, have more resilient livelihoods and are less exposed to protection risks and conflict.
