📋 Tender Overview
Scope :
Construction of the Cavalla border bridge between Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia.
Over the course of 24 months, Shaanxi will construct a box girder balanced cantilever bridge with a two-lane single carriageway and pedestrian walkways. In addition, about 1km of approach road will be constructed on both sides of the bridge.
The ECOWAS Commission is the agency overseeing the project, which includes the construction of joint border posts at the Prollo border between Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia and the Gbapleu border between Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Conakry.
The border posts and bridge are part of phase one of the estimated US$557 million Mano River Union Road Development and Transport Facilitation Programme (MRU/RDTFP), which aims to improve road infrastructure and facilitate trade within the Mano River Union area. The Mano River Union region comprises Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Conakry and Sierra Leone.
Phase one includes the 47.6km Danane-Gbapleu, 65km Blolequin-Toulepleu-Liberian border and the 28km Tabou-Liberian border roads in Cote d’Ivoire; the 39.8km Lola-Cote d’Ivoire border road in Guinea Conakry; and the 80km Karloken-Fish Town and 16km Harper Junction-Cavalla roads in Liberia. Work is at various stages of completion.
The executing agencies for the roadworks are the public works ministries of Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Conakry and Liberia as well as the Mano River Union Secretariat and the Joint Technical Committee.
The MRU/RDTFP has three other phases; the second also is under way, the third is in partial execution and the fourth is under study.
