Project Summary
In response to the APECβs commitment stated in the APEC 2024 Energy Ministerial Meeting that reaffirm the importance of ensuring energy security, resilience and access in the region, accelerating clean, sustainable, just, affordable, inclusive and sustainable energy transitions through various pathways, consistent with global net- zero greenhouse gas emissions/carbon neutrality by or around mid-century, taking into account the latest scientific developments and different domestic circumstances among economies,β¦ , this project aims to explore the opportunities and challenges that AI-based technologies can help accelerate renewable energy as a stable and reliable source of energy for energy security as well as provide capacity building for the APEC member economies through sharing information, experiences, practices in addressing obstacles on the way to promote efficient application of AI in energy sector for the sustainable development through a 2-day physical workshop in Viet Nam in 2025/2026.
Relevance
Region
In face with the increasing global population and development of the economy and society, the demand for energy has inevitably increased. The depletion of fossil fuel due to large-scale use as well as impacts of the global warming and climate change make the use of replenished natural sources such as solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, etc., or renewable energy as a trustworthy alternative for the sake of both dynamic and sustainable development.
However, renewable energy might not always be a stable and reliable source to be integrated into the distribution network on a large scale due to its intermittency, chaos, a
