Project Summary
While APEC member economies are advancing clean energy transitions, oil and gas remain essential components of their energy systems due to resource endowment, infrastructure realities, and development stages. Improving operational efficiency and reducing fugitive emissions and flaring in these sectors are critical to minimizing environmental impacts while maintaining energy security and economic stability.
This project will deliver a capacity-building workshop for policymakers and policy support officials focused on the oil and gas industry. Building on prior discussions that identified available technical solutions, and complemented by a dedicated Background Research Report covering upstream and midstream operational improvements, Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), and low-carbon solutions, the workshop will strengthen participantsβ ability to integrate analytical diagnostics, operational and optimization improvements across production, processing, storage, and compression systems, and investment justification methodologies. By enhancing decision-making capacity, the project will support evidence-based policy frameworks that promote realistic, cost-effective, and high-impact improvements across APEC economies.
Relevance
Region
The APEC Workshop on Cleaner and More Efficient Operation of the Fossil Energy Industry 2025 identified a broad range of technical solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce fugitive emissions across coal, oil, and gas
