Project Summary
Worldwide, natural disasters caused losses of US$ 320 billion in 2024, highlighted by Munich Re, one of the world's leading reinsurance company. Weather catastrophes were responsible for 93% of overall losses and around 11,000 people lost their lives as a result of natural disasters in 2024. Under EPWG, this project promoted Force for Good to tackle the pressing challenges for scaling-up resilience in business, supply chain, infrastructure and industry complexes in APEC as whole of society. This project attempted to exploring the smart technology, policies, solutions and strategies through public private partnership for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) with hands-on exercises for networking and facilitating the wellbeing of APEC population at risk on common interests to promote APEC resilience city and community initiatives .
Relevance
Region
With increased frequency and intensity of climate variability and extreme events, disaster impacts can easily reach the threshold and jeopardise human security to a greater extent. In light of this, EPCC strives to enhance APEC resilience and promotes scenario-based science, technology and innovation (STI) solutions for capacity building on innovative policy and decision-making through real-time or near real-time information sharing in APEC region for mitigating the impact. In this project, through institutional capacity building and networking, EPCC will showcase how information intelligence support the APEC emergency preparedness from the best practices sharing to policy and decision-making on interactive scenario-based approaches for capacity building on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change a
