Objective and Summary
The objective of the project is to develop the regional economy and improve the urban environment with reduced traffic congestion and traffic pollution as well as mitigating climate change by constructing a mass rapid transit system with a total length of 39 km in the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Area, which is located in the State of Gujarat. The project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 11 and 13.

Ahmedabad Metro’s Phase-II is 28.25 km long, with two corridors. While Corridor-1 is 22.8 km long and connects Motera Stadium and Mahatma Mandir. Corridor-2 is 5.4 km long and connects Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City.
28.254 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project with 2 corridors was approved by India’s Central Government’s Cabinet on February 19, 2019 at a total estimated cost of Rs. 5384.17 crores. Its foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2019. Phase 2 is currently in the pre-construction tendering stage and envisions a north extension of Line-2 from Motera Station to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. A notice inviting bids for its civil construction was published in January 2020, technical bids were opened in June 2020, and construction work is expected to begin in Q1 2021.
On March 2023, Dilip Buildcon has executed a contract agreement with Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) for ‘Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project - Phase-II’ corridor in Gujarat.
The scope of work involves the construction of 7.553 km elevated viaduct and seven nos. of stations (including E&M, architectural finishing, roofing, plumbing, signage, etc) from Sector- 1 to Mahatma Mandir (ch 31945.443 m to 39498.302 m, Package C3) in connection with Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, Phase-II. A total length of 7.553 km is to be covered.
The contract is worth Rs. 723.45 crore, along with a completion timeline of 24 months.
