π Tender Overview
In Burkina Faso, the increase in the population's food consumption is hampered by the low production performance of agricultural enterprises. To address this, the SDC is strengthening their investment capacities and their economic environment in order to drive market development dynamics that create jobs and wealth for the poorest. The approach meets the requirements of sustainable growth by addressing the causes of multidimensional fragility.

The project in brief
Background Local markets in Burkina Faso have become the main source of household food supplies. The current sharp increase in food demand is hampered by the poor performance of agri-food businesses, insufficient market infrastructure and the dysfunction of certain markets due to the security crisis. Financial services for agricultural entrepreneurship are poorly decentralized, difficult to access and rarely adapted to the specific needs of agricultural entrepreneurs. To address this, a strategy to promote agricultural businesses has been put in place, in particular through the agro-sylvo-pastoral investment code aimed at offering a privileged regime (tax and customs advantages) to agricultural businesses. The National Fund for Inclusive Finance (FONAFI) was also created to boost investments. In the context of political, security and humanitarian crisis, Switzerland remains committed to Burkina Faso to help maintain the country on its economic development trajectory. Switzerland directly supports the private sector by participating in the construction of inclusive and sustainable agricultural market systems. It minimizes interactions with the State, which is not a beneficiary of the program.
