PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Brazil officially recognizes 28 peoples with traditional ways of life (traditional peoples and communities, PCT). Through their way of life and knowledge, they contribute significantly to the protection of forests, the environment, and biodiversity. Nevertheless, they experience problems with the recognition of land rights. They are exposed to conflict and persecution.
Due to a lack of data on the use of traditional territories, it is difficult for the Brazilian government to take action against violations of these rights. The Traditional Territories Platform (PTT) is a digital tool that provides data on traditional territories in Brazil. It has been developed since 2018 by the Brazilian Federal Public Prosecution Office (MPF) and the National Council of Traditional Peoples and Communities (CNPCT).
The human and environmental rights of traditional peoples and communities are better protected in their territories through the PTT and other digital tools.
The project develops innovative digital and legal solutions so that the platform's geographical data can be used effectively to combat violations of rights. The Federal Attorney General's Office and other public bodies will be able to use automated analyses to use current and accurate information for their work to protect traditional territories and the right to traditional tenure. The project improves the administration and processes for registration on the platform by traditional peoples. It offers training on the secure use of PTT information.
