PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
The project aims to use established demonstrative sustainable farming and mobile grazing unit initiative for maintenance of favourable conservation status of the concrete populations of Corncrake*, Great snipe*, Black-tailed godwit*, Common redshank* and other species and habitats of EU Importance in wet grasslands and mires in six SPAs, and widely promote project achievements in the country and beyond. Due to the project, the local populations of the threatened grassland wader* species and Corncrake* will increase at least by 100% of each in 6 SPAs, reaching significant percentage level of the their national populations (at least 3% for Corncrake*, 25% for Black-tailed godwit*, 6% for Common redshank*, 10% for Ruff and 25% for Great snipe*), sustainable and nature and climate friendly farming practices promoted among all relevant stakeholders groups in the country reaching significant replication response (in 40 farms) including endorsement of the most important for grassland species conservation strategic planning documents and national legislation. Wet meadows and mires habitats will be restored in 460 ha of agricultural land by regulating hydrological regime (280 ha) and exterminating overgrown vegetation (310 ha). For maintaining of these and habitats in other sites, two demonstrative cattle breeding farms and mobile grazing initiative will be established in 640 ha. The farms will provide proves that by applying different kind and climate friendly faming schemes for maintaining of habitats, economical sustainability of the extensive cattle farms can be ensured. While mobile grazing initiative will allow farmers to test how the extensive habitatsβ grazing fits their land. To ensure replication and sustainability of the results, 3 sites management plans and 2 species action plans will be endorsed; habitatsβ sustainability model developed; capacities of stakeholders increased; improvements of RDP advocated. 270 000 persons will be reached by project dissemi
