Wind Potential Regions Tender

📄 Tender ID: 531238103 📅 Published: 06 Apr 2026

📋 Tender Overview

* Among the regions with the greatest generation capacity, Piura (7,098 MW) and Lambayeque (7,017 MW) stand out, positioning themselves as strategic areas. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the General Directorate of Energy Efficiency (DGEE), reported that Peru has an important wind potential distributed in various regions of the country, which reaches 20,493 megawatts (MW), consolidating the national territory as a key scenario for the development of renewable energies.
The general director of Energy Efficiency of the MINEM, Jose Meza, highlighted that this potential is mainly concentrated on the north and south coast of our country, where wind conditions are optimal for large-scale electricity generation.
He detailed that, among the regions with the greatest wind potential, Piura (7,098 MW) and Lambayeque (7,017 MW) stand out, which together represent more than two-thirds of the national total, positioning themselves as strategic areas for the development of wind projects.
This list continues: Ica (2,280 MW) and Arequipa (1,020 MW), southern regions with favorable conditions that would allow the installed capacity to be significantly expanded. Likewise, investment opportunities are identified in La Libertad (921 MW), Cajamarca (891 MW) and Ancash (708 MW), which also present significant potential to diversify electricity generation.
Finally, there are Lima (429 MW) and Amazonas (129 MW), which are also part of the national wind map.
Meza stressed that, despite this broad potential that our country has, the current installed capacity of wind energy reaches only 1.01 gigawatts (GW), which represents 5.0% of the total usable capacity, evidencing a large gap to close and an important opportunity to promote sustainable investments in the sector.
He indicated that there are various projects that have a Pre-Operability Study approved by the Economic Operation Committee of the National Interconnected System (COES), which could incorporate up to 8.2 additional GW to the national electrical system.
The MINEM reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting the development of renewable energies, promoting investments that allow taking advantage of the wind potential of the regions, contributing to the diversification of the energy matrix and the sustainable development of the country.
