π Tender Overview
The National Center for Technical and Technological Aid created in 2009 with contributions from Cuban specialists went from receiving 30 requests per month to 500 in the last five years said the head of the National Disability Program of MIDES Begonia Grau. It is a state laboratory unique in South America which invests 1.5 million dollars a year and provides prostheses splints and all kinds of help for free. One of the great shortcomings that Uruguay had was the access of people to prostheses after being amputated so we decided to make an agreement with Cuba to receive advice said Grau in the framework of a tour this Wednesday 23 together with the head of the Ministry of Social Development MIDES Marina Arismendi by the laboratory of the National Center for Technical and Technological Aid Cenatt located in the Prado Montevideo neighborhood. Grau said that Cuba sent its technicians who worked at the first headquarters of the center located on Avenida Italia and Las Heras also in Montevideo and then moved to the current building. The Cenatt was created with contributions in addition to Cuba from the Secretariat of the Disability of the Municipality of Montevideo the University of Labor of Uruguay and the National Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology. It is managed by the National Disability Program Pronadis of Mides. Grau reported that the demand went from 30 monthly requests to 500 in the last five years and that about 1.5 million dollars are invested per year.To access the benefits offered by the Cenatt the person with a disability cannot have a private health provider and must attend the offices of the Mides or the center itself which produces prostheses of lower limbs splints orthopedic shoes and offers any type of technical assistance such as wheelchairs beds and headphones. The hierarchy recalled that the idea of installing a center of this nature arose in 2009 when the need for all people with amputations or disabilities could access something as basic as a wheelchair. In the last five years 300000 has been invested in the purchase of state-of-the-art machinery which makes this state laboratory a reference in South America for its characteristics. It is a model center and we are pointers in the manufacture of prostheses because there is no laboratory in the region that offers them for free as is the case in Uruguay said Grau who said that among future challenges it is planned to open a branch in the north of the country to facilitate access to all Uruguayans because we always want to improve.
