📋 Tender Overview
The Minister of Labor and Social Security Pablo Mieres presented this morning at the virtual discussion The reform of Social Security organized by the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce Industry and Navigation. The event also had as speakers Rodolfo Saldain president of the Committee of Experts on Social Security and Elvira Domnguez a member of said commission representing the business chambers.Uruguay enjoys an exceptional social protection matrix in Latin America a collective construction that dates back many decades Minister Pablo Mieres began by saying. In this regard he referred to recent data from the ILO which indicate that in Latin America only 16 of workers have a social protection system against the risk of dismissal or job loss. In Uruguay it is 50 and if we add public officials we are talking about two thirds of the economically active population having coverage against the risk of cessation of activity. It is really a substantial difference he said. The hierarch also reaffirmed the need and urgency of reforming the system. The path chosen by this Government to carry out this reform is a sign of harmony with the type of reform in question he added. Any social security reform produces effects in the very long term therefore it implies an affectation not only of this period of government but of successive governments for decades. Therefore the search for a dialogue where all political and social actors participate it is part of a definition and that is why the Committee of Experts is made up of all the political parties with parliamentary representation and the social actors directly involved explained Mieres.
