The Committee of Experts on Social Security CESS was created by the law of urgent consideration No. 19889 of July 2020 within the scope of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security MTSS and the Office of Planning and Budget OPP to carry out a diagnosis of the pension system and present to the Executive Power recommendations for its reform.After this first meeting of the committee of experts in a press conference with the Minister of Labor and Social Security Pablo Mieres and the director of the OPP Isaac Alfie the president of the CESS Rodolfo Saldain stated that A plural transparent social dialogue has been initiated to reform a social security system that has been so characteristic of our way of life one of the things that Uruguayans appreciate the most and that most identify us as a nation in Latin America and the World.And he added The countrys population is on the way to shrinking and the group that is growing the most is the group over 60 years of age. There is a substantively demographic reason for this reform.Likewise he stressed that the style of the social dialogue initiated will be decisive where all the parties involved will have a voice and vote.
