U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, released the following statement on the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) initial findings for the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center’s (P&DC) Mail Processing Facility Review.
“While I’m encouraged to see the USPS plans to invest more federal resources in the Charleston postal facility, I have spoken with the America Postal Workers Union Local 133 and I share their concerns about potential job losses larger than those forecasted in the initial findings. Let me be clear – I remain adamantly opposed to any reduction in services or personnel at the Charleston facility. I urge every West Virginian to submit a public comment to the USPS to voice their support, as well.
“In December, I had a productive call with Postmaster DeJoy as soon as I became aware of the facility review, and I will continue working with him and his team to protect this critical lifeline for West Virginians. It is a top priority of mine to ensure these planned federal investments both revitalize the facility and support its workers so that, together, we can continue to deliver the highest level of service for the people of West Virginia.”
