President Erdogan opened the 30-kilometer section between Afyonkarahisar and Aksaray as part of the 2nd Stage of the Konya Ring Road to traffic. President Erdogan said, “By covering 40 kilometers on the existing road, we are shortening the transportation provided by 10 kilometers.” Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Uraloglu noted that a total of 6 billion liras will be saved annually with the section opened to traffic.
The Konya Beltway 2nd Stage Opening Ceremony was held with the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the participation of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uralo?lu. President Erdo?an noted that they made a public investment of 146.7 billion liras in the field of transportation in Konya. Erdogan said, “We connected our city to Ankara and Eski?ehir in the north, Isparta, Afyonkarahisar and from there to ?zmir in the west, Aksaray, Ni?de and from there to Kayseri in the east, and Antalya, Karaman and Mersin in the south with divided roads. We ensured uninterrupted, comfortable and safe transportation from Konya to the Mediterranean and Central Anatolia Regions by building the E?iste Hadimi Viaduct, the highest abutment and longest balanced cantilever bridge in our country.”
11 Different Highway Projects Continue in Konya
Erdo?an stated that they increased the length of divided roads in Konya, which was 167 kilometers in 2002, to 1,286 kilometers in 22 years, and continued his words as follows:
“The hot bituminous mixture coated road network increased from 97 kilometers to 1,296 kilometers. We provided our roads with a safer and more modern structure. We offered the Konya-Ankara Road, Konya-Ak?ehir-Afyonkarahisar Road, Konya-Aksaray Road, Konya-Karaman Road, Konya-Belören-Hadim Road to our city. We opened the 5,000-kilometer-long Demirkap? Tunnel, which connects Konya to the Mediterranean in the shortest way. Work on 11 separate highway projects such as the Alacabel Tunnel and Connection Roads, the Ak?ehir-Yunak Road, the Ta?kent-Balc?lar Road, the Ere?li-Halkap?nar-?vriz Road, and the Seydi?ehir-Bozk?r Road continues. Hopefully, we will finalize these projects soon and put them at the disposal of all cities in the region together with our brothers and sisters from Konya.”
“Konya Ring Road is one of the most important investments we have made for our city”
Noting that they continue to make highway investments that will strengthen Konya’s central position in urban and intercity transportation and carry its agricultural, commercial and industrial accumulation to much higher levels, Erdo?an said, “Konya Ring Road, which is 122 kilometers in length, with the first section being 22 kilometers, the second section being 46 kilometers and the third section being 54 kilometers, is one of the most important investments we have brought to our city.”
Erdo?an stated that with the project, they will transfer Konya's transit traffic load to the ring road and reduce the traffic density on the old ring road within the city. The President continued his words as follows:
“We will diversify the transportation possibilities of Konya, which will provide fast and safe traffic flow to the tourism and trade centers of our country. Thus, we will make significant contributions to the economic, social and commercial development of our city. We completed the first part of our project in 2020 and opened it to traffic. Today, we are opening the second part, the 30-kilometer section between Afyonkarahisar and Aksaray, to transportation and putting it into service.”
“We are shortening transportation by 10 kilometers”
Noting that they planted exactly 44 thousand saplings in this section, which includes 3 bridges, 3 interchanges, one viaduct, 18 underpasses and 57 culverts, Erdo?an said, “We continue to work on the remaining 16 kilometers of the second section, namely the 16-kilometer section between the Aksaray-Adana axis. Hopefully, we will complete it soon. With the 30-kilometer section between the Afyonkarahisar-Aksaray axis that we put into service today, we are shortening the transportation provided by 10 kilometers by traveling 40 kilometers on the existing road.”
Stating that they reduced travel time from 49 minutes to 17 minutes, Erdo?an continued his words as follows:
“Thus, we will save 6 billion liras annually, 4.6 billion liras in time and 1.4 billion liras in fuel. We are reducing carbon emissions that are harmful to the environment by 81,400 tons. I hope that the ring road will be auspicious for our Konya, our region and our country.”
A Service Storm Will Blow in 2025
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Uralo?lu stated that they made a strong start to 2025 as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. Uralo?lu said that 2025 will be a year in which they will create a storm of services and works all around Turkey under the leadership of President Erdo?an.
Minister Uralo?lu, who also reminded that they held the AK Party Ayd?n and Denizli Provincial Congresses last week, said, “We experienced the excitement and happiness of officially opening our Ayd?n-Denizli Highway. Today, after our Konya Provincial Congress, we are proud to open the 2nd Stage of the Konya Ring Road. God willing, we will also officially open the new terminal building of our Kayseri Airport before our Kayseri Provincial Congress.”
