π Tender Overview
Budapest October 5 2026 - In order to safely maintain the Tisza bridge in Algyo on the Szeged-Hodmezovasarhely-Bekescsaba railway line the railway company is introducing another temporary measure until the final technical solution is developed.Due to a previously identified structural defect on the bridge we ordered increased surveillance and a speed limit of 60 km/h was introduced from September 8.Although the deterioration of the structure slowed down based on the inspection data the process did not stop completely.Until the restoration begins there will be a speed limit of 50 km/h on a 500-meter stretch from today. The current restrictions only reflect an intermediate temporary state. After finalizing the expert opinions the railway company will take immediate action on the restoration. We thank our passengers for their understanding and patience during this transitional period.
The speed limit of 60 km/h introduced on the bridge and the speed limit of 50 km/h valid from today results in minimal extra travel time (1-2 minutes) however it does not cause interruptions in the case of trams between Szeged-Hodmezovasarhely and trains between Szeged-Bekescsaba.
For the MAV group the safety of its passengers is of primary importance and train traffic can be safely maintained on the bridge during this transition period. On the bridge we carry out continuous supervision and regular inspections carried out every three days at most which are carried out by our track maintenance and bridge experts. With the involvement of an external engineering company we determine the cause of the structural defect and the interventions necessary to stop the deterioration and then eliminate it.The engineering opinion is expected to be completed by the second half of November. If it becomes necessary either on the basis of the tests or the engineering opinion we will introduce an even greater speed reduction and restriction than before in order to prevent further deterioration and to ensure traffic safety until the restoration is completed. We will inform the public and the traveling public in time about the results of the investigations and possible changes to the traffic order.
