- Deficient communication and follow-up to UGEL of Tacna delayed reinforcement of reading and mathematical comprehensionTacna.- The Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) warned that the lack of formal communication, monitoring and support by the Local Educational Management Unit (UGEL) of Tacna prevented educational institutions in the region from timely implementing pedagogical improvement plans, after the evaluation carried out by the Regional Pulse 2026 strategy sought to strengthen learning in reading and mathematical comprehension, with an investment of S/ 115,331.
The Regional Pulse 2026 strategy, led by the Tacna Regional Directorate of Education, measured the learning levels of students in the region by collecting information on the achievements of the skills of regular basic education students, giving priority to the areas of reading and mathematics.
The situation warned affects the objective of the evaluation, aimed at identifying the learning gaps of students in 2nd, 4th and 6th grade of primary school, as well as 2nd and 3rd grade of secondary school, so that teachers can develop differentiated strategies and improve levels of educational achievement. The regional results show gaps in learning, where only 32% of primary school students manage to satisfactorily solve mathematical problems and 26% of secondary school students reach an adequate level in said competence.
In the Control Visit Report No. 008-2026-OCI/0746-SVC (evaluation period from June 4 to 10, 2026) it is stated that the control commission identified that UGEL Tacna sent the evaluation response consolidation sheets through a WhatsApp group, instead of using formal institutional channels that guarantee adequate and timely communication with the directors of the educational institutions.
Likewise, it was evident that the Tacna Regional Directorate of Education (DRET) and the UGEL Tacna did not hold coordination meetings or provide technical support after the application of the evaluation, despite the time that had passed since obtaining the results.
The Comptrollers Office recommended that UGEL Tacna adopt the necessary preventive and corrective actions to strengthen the communication, monitoring and support mechanisms for educational institutions, in order to guarantee that the results of the Regional Pulse 2026 evaluation are used to improve student learning.
