Agreement with the District Municipality of Cerro Colorado establishes the relocation of an asphalt plant in the commune that partially overlaps the land of the air facility. With a strategic vision and within the framework of inter-institutional coordination, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) and the District Municipality of Cerro Colorado signed an important agreement that will make improvements and future investments viable at the Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport. With this, the airport development of the department of Arequipa is promoted.
The agreement contemplates the replacement and continuity of the service of the asphalt production system, in accordance with the Master Development Plan of the Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport. As part of this process, the relocation of the asphalt plant of the Municipality of Cerro Colorado is established, currently located in an area that partially overlaps with airport lands.
This measure will free up strategic areas, facilitate the execution of expansion and modernization works, and promote new investments in airport infrastructure, contributing to more efficient and safer operation of the air terminal.
The agreement was signed by the director of the MTCs Property Availability Directorate, Reyna Huamani Huarcaya; and the general coordinator of Airports, Frank Rodriguez Caceres, with the mayor of the Cerro Colorado district, Manuel Vera Paredes. In this way, an agreement approved in December 2025 is formalized. Said approval was granted through council agreement No. 206-2025-MDCC, which provides the legal basis for its execution and compliance with the commitments assumed by both institutions.
With this initiative, the MTC reaffirms its commitment to the orderly development of transportation infrastructure, the strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation and the promotion of projects that promote economic growth and regional competitiveness, for the benefit of citizens.
