πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Specialists carried out technical inspection on the groundIn Pucallpa, capital of the province of Coronel Portillo, studies are being carried out for the construction of the landfill, which is part of the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Project, which will benefit the districts of Calleria, Yarinacocha and Manantay.

Jonathan Malca Pozo, provincial coordinator of Execution Unit 003 of the Ministry of the Environment, reported that on July 2, a technical inspection was carried out on the land destined for the final disposal infrastructure for solid waste.

The visit included the participation of the landfill specialist, Walter Gonzalez, representative of the MIRS Consortium, responsible for preparing the technical plan of the project in our city. During the tour, the conditions of the land located in the former Pati III estate, at kilometer 18 of the Federico Basadre Highway, property of the Provincial Municipality of Coronel Portillo, were evaluated. Aspects such as soil type, flora, fauna and proximity to water sources were verified, key information for technical studies.

This evaluation will allow the infrastructure of the landfill to be optimized and guarantee adequate management of solid waste in the province, said Malca. The project contemplates an investment of more than S/ 54 million and seeks to significantly improve the management of urban waste in a population that exceeds 400 thousand inhabitants.

Municipal officials also participated in this inspection, who confirmed the progress in improving the access road to the land, an essential condition to continue with the geotechnical and hydrological studies. Unlike previous visits, this day allowed the designer to learn directly about the environmental conditions of the area. The delegation also visited the temporary cells currently in operation, in order to collect local experiences that will be incorporated into the new system.

Currently, Coronel Portillo generates around 400 tons of solid waste per day, a figure that will continue to increase with population growth. Therefore, the project has been designed with an operation horizon of 20 years, starting with a first stage of eight years of useful life.

The landfill will include an organic and inorganic waste recovery plant, a leachate treatment plant, storage ponds, administrative areas, internal roads and an access road connected to the Federico Basadre Highway. The leachate treatment plant will allow the control of these liquids generated by waste, especially in the rainy season, reducing risks of soil and groundwater contamination.

Finally, Malca Pozo announced that the technical visits will continue in the coming weeks with the participation of specialists from KfW, the MIRS Consortium and the 003 Execution Unit, with the aim of supervising progress and guaranteeing compliance with the schedule for the construction of the Coronel Portillo landfill.
