Within the framework of the "Soriano Open Gates" project, an initiative promoted by the Departmental Directorate of the MGAP of Soriano, this Thursday, July 23, 2026, the sixth Field Trip was carried out with great success. On this occasion, a group of 9th year Integrated Basic Education (EBI) students from the "Carlos A. Guerra" Technical School of Cardona participated in a training and experiential day at the Montes del Plata industrial plant, located in Conchillas, department of Colonia.
The activity began at 07:00 hours with the departure from the educational center to the agroforestry complex. The day was organized by the Decentralization Unit of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) together with the Decentralized Commission of ANEP Soriano, and had the technical and logistical support of Montes del Plata.
A bridge between education and the agriculture of the future
The central purpose of the Soriano Open Doors project is to promote Agricultural Consciousness in new generations, bringing them a modern and updated perspective on the entire productive chain.
"We seek to demystify old stereotypes associated with rural areas, showing that today the sector demands qualified labor, specialization and technical skills of a high technological and innovative level."
Equipped with the corresponding safety elements (helmets, reflective vests and protective glasses), the students toured the main facilities of the industrial plant:
Logistics and storage of cellulose: They observed the packaging process of the bales and their massive collection in warehouses prior to export.
Port area: They learned closely about the operations of the maritime terminal on the banks of the RΓo de la Plata, appreciating the magnitude of the logistics and commercial network.
Informative talk: They participated in a presentation about the forestry value chain and the various training and employment opportunities that the region offers.
Innovation and educational continuity
This experiential experience is part of the project's work methodology, which covers three stages: a prior diagnosis through questionnaires, the field visit and a subsequent impact evaluation in the classroom.
Through this cycle, the aim is for young people not only to discover agro-industrial processes up close, but also to recognize in the rural environment and its value chain a real alternative for their personal development, educational continuity in Higher Secondary Education and tertiary job insertion.
