π Tender Overview
State Secretary at the Ministry of Defense dr. As part of this years Bled Strategic Forum, Erik Kopac appeared on the panel entitled Can Europe support NATO? The Europeanization of the Alliance in a Time of Uncertainty. When asked by the moderator whether Europe alone could exercise military power and protect its strategic interests around the world without the United States of America, the Secretary of State replied that it is not capable of doing so in the current situation. In his opinion, the partnership between Europe and the United States of America in the field of defense is essential and also something natural. Military power is, as Dr. A digger made up of capacity, human resources and political will. According to him, there is no real European political will in Europe due to different national interests. As far as human resources are concerned, the European Union otherwise has the largest armed forces in the world, said Dr. Digger.
When asked about the European defense industry, the State Secretary Dr. Erik Kopac replied that the European Union should first do its homework, namely to establish a common market on the one hand and a common supply on the other. The European Union has 27 members, and the defense industry was actually a national issue two decades ago. Today there are several important questions in this area, and the European Union should first clarify how to include small and medium-sized companies in this big game that has already started, said the state secretary, adding that the industrialization of defense production is also one of the questions that needs to be answered.
State Secretary dr. Kopac concluded by saying: We must not forget about our allies. NATO is a political-military organization, but in its essence a military alliance based on solidarity, transparency and trust.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, General Carsten Breuer, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Europe, North America and Multilateral Affairs from the General Directorate for International Relations and Strategy from France, Colonel Patrick Bryant, the distinguished colleague of the Center for European Political Analysis from the United States, Kurt Volker, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of European Union Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mehmet Kemal Bozay, also took part in the panel. The panel was moderated by the president of the Pulaski Foundation from Poland, Zbigniew Pisarski.
