πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The Ministry of Transport Mobility and Urban Agenda Mitma through the Yebes Observatory attached to Mitma through the National Geographic Institute IGN organizes the 22nd Laser Telemetry Congress from next Monday November 7 to 11 for Satellites SLR. In it experts from around the world in laser telemetry measurements for satellites with applications in geodesy geophysics engineering and fundamental physics will meet in Guadalajara.More than one hundred participants from five continents will gather at the event in which the International Laser Telemetry Service ILRS also collaborates and in which the most recent scientific results and instrumental developments in this field will be presented. The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented this conference from being held since its last edition in 2018 in Canberra Australia. The Yebes Observatory located in Guadalajara is building a laser telemetry satellite tracking station that will form part of a global observation network. On the occasion of its near completion and entry into operation it was proposed as the organizer of this Congress. For the celebration of this conference the Provincial Council of Guadalajara has given the auditorium and some rooms of the San Jos Center while the Education Delegation of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha will provide a space in the Music Conservatory. Both the construction of the monitoring station and the Congress are co-financed with FEDER funds and are part of the YDALGO project endowed with 9490000 euros and which will end in 2023.The technique of laser ranging for satellites consists of the highly precise measurement of the distances to satellites in orbit through the use of powerful pulsed lasers emitted from ground stations. The determination of the positions of the satellites allows among other applications to calibrate the measurements of altimetry satellites for the determination of sea level polar ice caps and continental ice masses and provide an independent source of positioning for global navigation systems. by satellite such as the GPS constellation or Galileo.Spain thus contributes to the creation and maintenance of the global geodetic infrastructure necessary to support a large part of the research related to the observation of the planet as required of the international community by the United Nations in 2015.
