Two months after the approval of the Act on Amendments and Supplements to the Act on the Public Use of the Slovenian Language (in use from April 27, 2024), Apple announced a new operating system - it will operate the user interface of the new mobile operating system (iOS 18).
Slovenian will thus be available on all Apple devices that support iOS 18. Apple iOS 18 will be available to the general public in September 2024.
At the Ministry of Culture, for the first time in almost 20 years, we renewed the Act on the Public Use of the Slovenian Language, which also covered modern digital devices. In the process of preparing the amendment to the law, we also met with representatives of the Apple company in Brussels and presented them with the requirements of the new law. At the meeting, the minister dr. Asta Vre?ko emphasized that supporting the Slovenian language will no longer be just a wish, but a legal requirement.
Apple is the first major corporation to follow the requirements of the revised Act on the Public Use of the Slovenian Language. We expect that other manufacturers will soon follow suit and that all devices will finally speak in Slovenian.
