π Tender Overview
At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana the 26th Optical Communication Seminar organized by the Radiation and Optics Laboratory is already taking place. Over the course of three days many experts users and developers from this field will present themselves. They will talk about innovations research achievements and guidelines that are or will become important for the further development of optical communications in Slovenia.Local experts give lectures on the state and development issues of the optical network in Slovenia while foreign lecturers present the latest development trends and future predictions including the development of secure quantum communications. The red thread of this years seminar is fiber to the end user as the only true broadband medium. Optical networks based on optical fibers are the least energy-consuming and therefore it makes sense to use them to the maximum when connecting all devices that do not move. The use of optical infrastructure also undoubtedly enables a more economical use of frequency space which is a limited commodity. The participants of the seminar will among other things get an insight into newly emerging technologies and learn about various important achievements. From the very beginning the seminar has been aimed at the professional development of telecommunications experts and others who are interested in this field. First and foremost the aim of the seminar is to refresh disseminate improve and deepen knowledge and increase the professionalism of employees in the field of telecommunications. Based on the experience gained over three decades this seminar on optical communications has become a successful form of professional development at the postgraduate level and is intended for Slovenian experts who work in the rapidly developing field of optical communications.Minister for Digital Transformation Dr. In her introductory speech Emilija Stojmenova Duh emphasized that we still need experts in this field and reminded that our country achieves good results in the field of connectivity DESI index Slovenia is in 10th place and is above the European average because us key digital inclusion but when we talk about it we have to start with infrastructure and access itself. We need to take care of services and networks only then will knowledge and competence follow. We will strive to build new networks and update existing ones for which we need experts which are not many. Thats why we want as many students as possible to acquire professions that are very much needed in this field. In the future however we will focus on the development of digitization and contribute to the construction of broadband networks. In the past the optical communications seminar has undoubtedly made a significant contribution to the introduction of broadband communications in Slovenia by transferring knowledge from the academic environment to Slovenian telecommunications companies and will continue to show the way to a digital society.
