The beginning of the summer season is here and the Railway Company Slovakia (ZSSK) in cooperation with the Austrian carrier รsterreichische Bundesbahnen (รBB) is once again offering a comfortable train journey directly to the "Slovak Sea". The EuroNight train to Split departed today at 15:26 from Bratislava-Novรฉ Mesto station. ZSSK trains will run to Croatia throughout the summer until October 5 three times a week.
The first train to Croatia is almost fully occupied with 173 passengers, up to 96%. The most, up to 63 people, travel in sleeping cars. 26 people travel from Bratislava. The coaches, this time only from Vienna, carry 33 cars and motorcycles.
"The train to the Croatian holiday destination is one of the most popular products of the Railway Company Slovakia, which we are operating together with รBB for the fourth time. The fact that Slovaks love Croatia and want to travel to it every year is also felt in the numbers. Currently, more than 11,000 train tickets to Split and back have been sold," said Peter Helexa, CEO of ZSSK. Last year, up to 19,000 lovers of summer holiday atmosphere used this connection.
The ecological carrier also supports tourism in cooperation with the Croatian Tourist Board in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. According to the director of the association, Miodrag Mla?i?, the number of Slovak tourists in Croatia is constantly growing and train connections will intensify this trend. "Last year, more than 519,000 Slovaks visited Croatia, which is 1.7% more than in 2022. The figures for the first four months of 2024 confirm that Croatia remains a popular destination for Slovaks. So far, more than 19.6,000 visitors have arrived in Croatia, which is 5.9% more than in the same period in 2023. I would like to wish all guests from Slovakia a beautiful holiday in Croatia and a pleasant journey by direct train ZSSK," said Miodrag Mla?i?.
EuroNight will depart from Bratislava-Novรฉ Mesto station every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 15:26 and from Bratislava-Petrลพalka station at 16:01. From Split every Thursday, Saturday and Monday at 17:29. This time, the loading and unloading of vehicles will take place only in Vienna due to the closure of the line through Marchegg (PDF, 402 kB). The railway station and car unloading terminal in Split are located directly in the city center opposite the port terminal of ships to individual Croatian islands.
The train journey takes about 16 hours and is more comfortable and environmentally friendly than the journey by car. The capacity of the train is 60 seats, 96 seats in sleeping cars and 60 in couchette cars. 20 seats are designed to transport cars or motorcycles from Vienna. The ticket in the sleeping car also includes a welcome drink and breakfast. During the entire transfer, passengers can also buy snacks and drinks on the train, in the sleeping car at the steward.
