For the national carrier as one of the most environmentally friendly carriers in Slovakia, educating the next generation of railway workers is a mission. That is why in the school year 2024/2025 the possibility of studying in various technical disciplines that are key in rail transport opens up throughout Slovakia.
Thanks to dual education, pupils are not only dependent on theoretical acquisition of knowledge in the school desk, but they collect real practical skills at ZSSK workplaces already during their studies, where the quality of teaching is the responsibility of a certified instructor with many years of experience directly from practice.
Even through dual education, the company educates future colleagues who will find employment in key shortage positions. The national carrier currently records the biggest shortage in the positions of train driver, train conductor, electromechanic, locksmith, mechanic and wagonmaster.
Peter Helexa, CEO of ZSSK: "We actively contribute to the education of our future colleagues through dual education. It is a win-win investment for both parties – both for the national carrier and for young people who, after their studies, can immediately get a job and pursue an award-winning and meaningful profession for society. For many, working on the railway is not only a job, but also a passion and a hobby."
The aim of dual education is to facilitate the transition of pupils to professional life, especially by linking theoretical and practical studies directly at the future employer. The national carrier thus educates its future employees through dual education, thereby participating in the education of the next generation of future employees. Five of last year's graduated dualists, who decided to work as a train driver in ZSSK, are currently completing the theoretical part of education with the last exam and will move on to driving training and practical test. After successfully completing the practical part, they will become full-fledged drivers of the national carrier. This will happen as early as summer 2024.
