π Tender Overview
On the official agenda in Saudi Arabia, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, participated, this Monday (12/1), in a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, in Riyadh, with the Saudi minister Bandar Al-Khorayef. The objective of the meeting is to deepen bilateral dialogue and expand strategic cooperation in the mineral sector.
During the meeting, minister Alexandre Silveira presented advances in the governance of the Brazilian mineral sector, with emphasis on the National Council for Mineral Policy (CNPM), an entity that brings together 18 ministries and acts as a direct advisor to the President of the Republic, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in the formulation of the countrys mineral policy. According to the minister, the CNPM plays a central role in improving the licensing process, reducing bureaucracy and strengthening institutional coordination, promoting greater predictability, structural security and stability for investments.
Even though it is a federation made up of different states, Brazil has advanced in the unification of regulatory and institutional language, always preserving fundamental principles such as legal, regulatory and political stability, in addition to the legal security necessary for long-term investments, highlighted Silveira.
In the investment agenda, Alexandre Silveira highlighted the role of Brazilian companies in the mineral sector and the work of the Government of Brazil to unlock strategic high-reduction iron ore and copper projects, focusing on the states of Para and Minas Gerais, increasing the countrys competitiveness in the international market.
working group
Alexandre Silveira also emphasized Brazils high geological potential: only around 30% of the national subsoil is mapped. Even so, Brazil already stands out as the worlds second largest reserve of rare earths and the seventh largest uranium reserve, which reinforces the governments optimism regarding the expansion of international partnerships in the coming years.
In this context, Alexandre Silveira expressed interest in receiving representatives from the company Manara in Brazil, to jointly evaluate opportunities for expanding investments in strategic mineral projects. The Saudi fund Manara Minerals is a partner of Vale S.A. in Vale Base Metals (VBM) - the unit responsible for the production of copper and nickel, critical and strategic minerals for the energy transition.
The parties agreed to create a bilateral working group, with regular meetings, including in virtual format, to study initiatives that can be developed jointly and make cooperation between the two countries more efficient.
Mineral transformation
The Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy also reinforced the importance of Saudi partners investing in the mineral transformation chain in Brazil, adding value to national production, promoting industrialization, job creation and technological development. Alexandre Silveira highlighted that, in a global scenario in which critical minerals are consolidated as the new oil, the integration between mining, industry and energy becomes strategic - an experience observed by the minister during visits to Saudi companies on other occasions.
Finally, Alexandre Silveira requested support from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) in projects aimed at mapping Brazilian mineral potential, expanding the countrys geological knowledge and creating solid foundations for new structuring investments.
